Our Curriculum – Learning Through Exploration

At Little Explorers, we believe that every child is unique and learns best through play, discovery, and meaningful experiences. Our curriculum is carefully designed to support all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), encouraging children to explore, create, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Each room within the nursery provides age-appropriate activities and experiences to support your child’s development:

Caterpillars

A calm, nurturing space for babies to grow, explore, and form secure attachments with their key person.

Butterflies

A lively and engaging environment where toddlers develop their independence, communication, and confidence.

Ladybirds

Focused on building social skills, early literacy and numeracy, and self-expression through creative play.

Pre-School

Led by a qualified Early Years Teacher, our pre-schoolers enjoy a structured, play-based curriculum that prepares them for the transition to primary school.

Across all rooms, children have daily access to our large outdoor area where they can explore nature, develop physical skills, and enjoy fresh air in all weathers. We also offer enriching additional activities such as Musical Mischief and Spanish lessons to further enhance creativity, language, and cultural awareness.

Our passionate team plan experiences around each child’s interests and next steps in learning, ensuring that they are supported, challenged, and celebrated every step of the way.

Home Learning & Partnerships with Parents

We believe that learning extends beyond the nursery. Each half term, we send home activity packs that link to what your child is working on in nursery, helping you to share in their learning journey.

We’re also proud to be part of the Lancashire ‘We Are Reading’ initiative, promoting a love of books, stories, and language across the nursery. Children are encouraged to borrow books from our library to enjoy at home with their families.

Nutrition – Healthy Meals, Happy Children

At Little Explorers, mealtimes are a key part of our day. All meals and snacks are freshly cooked onsite each day by our dedicated Nursery Cook. We cater for all dietary requirements, allergies, and tastes, ensuring that every child enjoys a balanced, nutritious, and delicious diet. Our menu includes:

  • A variety of home-cooked lunches such as Chicken & Tarragon Casserole, Vegetable Lasagne, and Cowboy Pie.
  • Healthy snacks like yoghurt, pancakes with blueberries, and fresh fruit.
  • Vegetarian alternatives provided daily, including Quorn and vegetable-based dishes.
  • Light teas such as homemade soups, pasta dishes, and baked beans on toast.
We work closely with parents to devise weaning menus for babies and to make sure every child’s dietary needs are met with care. Our kitchen proudly holds a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating.

Encouraging Healthy Habits for Life

We see mealtimes as more than just eating — they’re social, learning moments. Children are encouraged to sit together, use good manners, and talk about the foods they enjoy. This helps to build confidence, independence, and positive attitudes toward healthy eating from an early age.
